Coach Testimonials

Irv Magill is an outstanding instructor who teaches the finer points of the game. Footwork, spacing, ball handling, understanding angles – these areas are often overlooked, but players and teams must perfect them to become great. It has been highly beneficial to have Irv on board working with our guys.”

Head Boys Basketball Coach, Lower Merion High School

I have learned a great deal watching Irv Magill in action with our guys. He is a student of the game and does a great job sharing his knowledge on the court. He teaches with a purpose — it seems like there’s an “aha!” moment every time he introduces a new drill. He has helped our kids see the game in a different way and has helped me become a better coach.”

Doug Young
Assistant Boy’s Basketball Coach, Lower Merion High School

I was first introduced to Irv by former NBA player and current University of Virginia assistant coach Rick Brunson. Rick called me out of the blue one day to tell me that he had just attended a session with Irv Magill and was astonished at how terrific an instructor he was. I decided to attend one of Irv’s sessions to see for myself. After only ten minutes of watching Irv work with a group of high school players, I left the gym to go outside to call Rick to tell him that he was wrong. Irv is not the best instructor in the Delaware Valley he is the best instructor that I have ever seen in my 25 year coaching career. When Irv took a break, I introduced myself and told him that after only 10 minutes, I came to the conclusion that he was the best I have ever seen. When I returned to practice the following week, I could not stop myself from telling the other Blitz coaches how terrific Irv was. In fact, Irv conducted a clinic for over 150 Blitz players and coaches that was extremely successful and very well received by the players, coaches and parents who attended.

Like many of you, I have been frustrated by the lack of quality instructional options for basketball players who are interested in taking their games to the next level. I am not referring to kids of minimal skills but those players age 12 and up interested in developing their games to compete with the best in the country. Irv provides exactly that kind of instruction. He provides skill instruction in those areas that permit talented players to separate themselves from the good players. Whether it involves how to create space to get off your shot or how to beat defensive pressure or the proper footwork required to efficiently get off your shot. Irv is the best I have ever seen at dissecting the technical aspects of the game and taking that information and step by step teaching players how to improve their games.

I am so impressed by how unique and invaluable Irv’s skills are that I have convinced the South Jersey Blitz AAU program to hire Irv as our skills consultant. I also plan to use Irv exclusively to provide instruction to my nationally ranked 13u team. If you are interested in finding someone who knows every aspect of how to play the game of basketball to teach your son, daughter, or team, Irv Magill and Court Sense are by far the best in the business. Take my word for it. Simply attend one of Irv’s training sessions to see for yourself. Believe me, if you know the game of basketball you will leave with only one thought and that is how quickly can I get my player into the gym so that Irv can get started improving their game.”

Irv Magill has a collection of drills for individuals and teams on all skill levels that help to teach the technical areas of the game that often are overlooked yet are extremely valuable to the overall basketball development of players and teams. I have seen Irv in action and would like to thank him for taking the time to work with our kids. The drills he assembled were presented in a way that kids could learn and benefit from them. I admire how Irv is able to touch on the mental aspect of the game too, including player self-confidence as well as team support. Irv presented so much information that the kids who worked with him that will be on my team will begin the season with a new found confidence inspired by their work with him. Thank you to Irv Magill for taking the time to share drills, ideas, and advice for our kids!”

Student Testimonials

When I met Irv, I was an overly confident eight grader who felt scoring the most points on my team guaranteed me a successful career in basketball. It didn’t take long for Irv to point out all of my weaknesses and show me a new perspective on the game. He stressed that if I wanted to achieve my goals of a basketball scholarship, I needed to commit myself for the next four years, improving my skills and learning the game. From hundreds of ball handling drills to analyzing games on television, Irv gave me a “degree” in basketball that I was able to use in my college career at the University of Richmond and throughout my career playing professionally overseas. Now, as a coach myself, I am proud to say I am able to teach my players a level of basketball that most kids never get a chance to learn. Irv has helped me become the player, coach, and most importantly, the person I am today.”

I play point guard at the University of Pennsylvania. I’ve been working with Irv since I was about 10 years old. He taught me the fundamentals of the game while instilling a strong work ethic and helping me focus on being determined to elevate my game to a higher level. Working with Irv has laid the foundation for my game. Without his help I would not have been able to grow and learn how to play the game the right way. I am the player I am today thanks to Irv’s Court Sense Basketball program.”

Irv and I met at the end of my senior year at Downingtown High. We played basketball together through the spring and summer of ’93. Just playing with Irv was a great experience. He plays like a natural point guard which is the position I played while attending the University of Virginia and in the WNBA, Charlotte Sting. Irv helped me improve my ball handling, footwork and offensive moves. He also provided me with fitness and conditioning tips. Irv knows basketball and can help young players improve their fundamental skills and help them reach their full potential.

I met Irv at a boy’s basketball camp. As counselors, we played a game of basketball for the entire camp. Irv had the coaches and campers in awe of his ball handling and passing ability. He has excellent court awareness and ability to create and find the open man. As an instructor, Irv is one of the hardest working guys I know. He takes the game extremely serious. Irv is a sure bet when it comes to getting young players to work hard and progress to the next level.”

Parent Testimonials

I wanted to let you know that today Laura committed to play at Stockton College of NJ. The coach feels she has a strong opportunity to challenge for the starting spot next year. She also received a Full Academic Scholarship, Admission to the Physical Therapy Graduate program and is being considered for the Honors program.

A lot of Laura’s success is a direct of you showing her what it takes to play the game correctly. A teacher is measured by the success of their students. I know she works hard but your teaching went a long way in improving both her game and confidence. As her father I watched her develop since she was in kindergarten. You have had one of the biggest impacts on her game as any coach she has had. Your positive approach goes a long way and I sincerely appreciate everything you have done for her. This has been a long term goal for her and we thank you for helping her reach it. You should be proud to have such an impact on a student’s success.”
